Every gamer in the world is anxiously awaiting November for the release of both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. This is like a Tyson vs Holyfield fight, but will it be an 11 round slug fest or a disqualification cop-out, and if so, by who? EA is not only confident but cocky and has ratcheted up the pressure on reigning FPS king Activision, by releasing a slew of tantalizing vids showcasing Battlefield 3′s impressive visual style as well as firing a verbal shot across bow of Bobby Kotick and the COD team.
This game is designed to take that game down. If you’re looking for a battle of the titans, a Red Sox versus Yankees, if you’re trying to understand if it’s Microsoft versus Google and what the tip-off point is for this holiday season — this is it. There’ll be a couple of hundred million dollars of marketing between these two products going head-to-head; similar designs, we think we’ve got the better product. It’s going to be a blast.

If history is any indication, we should get our first glimpse at the new MW3 around the end of the month ( MW2 was revealed at the end of April ). Will it be a high octane, chest pounding, tour de force or will it be reserved and shadowed in speculation? If the later what does that say about the game? At this stage only time will tell, but EA is already on the offensive with guns blazing. I think it is time for Activision to call in the dogs!
This is going to be nail biter. No mater who wins I hope the consumer comes out on top with a great new game to play, or even better two great games.
I am certainly looking forward to this “war”. Its win win for gamers. I’ll be playing both. Good article PowerMac.
Agreed. I am definitely upgrading my gamefly account so that I may rent both of them and play them together so I can compare them and then choose the best one! Either way this fall is going to be GREAT for the FPS genre!
