EA games and Crytek have released their newest installment in the futuristic first person shooter franchise Crysis. The year is 2023, and aliens are swarming New York City, using your new and improved Nanosuit2, it is your job to fight off the alien horde.

Where to start? First off, I am not usually a fan of the futuristic game genre but this one has me hooked. The storyline of this FPS shooter is your basic alien attack, infect the populace, and take over the world scenario. Here I am, 7 hours into the campaign and still not finished on Normal difficulty.

The graphics are very, very good and definitely up to par with today’s console shooters. The cut-scene pieces are amazing, and seem to remind me of the movie Independence Day. You play the game in a futuristic Nanotechnology suit that is designed to give you more speed, strength, and the ability to go invisible using active camouflage.  The game gives you multiple options to out flank, out maneuver, and just plain old curb stomp your foes.

In story mode, the direct run and gun at your enemies approach believe me is not going to work all the time. You will find yourself restarting at the checkpoints quite often if that is the only strategy you use.

The game gives you the option of upgrading the suit as you collect alien Nanoparticles, which you can change on the fly given a certain situation. Whether you choose to upgrade the suits maneuverability, target location or strength is up to you. The higher the ability you want, the longer you have to wait. Each improved ability cost increases and using the suit to its fullest abilities is the key to success.

The weapons are really fun to use. You are usually presented with one at the beginning of each section in the game that may or may not be the best to get you to your goal. Along the adventure you can always find something new to use and find out which one works best for you and suits your play style.

This is not the type of game that I typically choose to play, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. My guess is it will have good re-playability if you want to play the game on the harder difficulties.
