F’n Live Better- Black Ops Edition: Get Ready for the First Strike Map Pack

Jan 31, 2011

Video games are fun, that’s why we play them.  But let’s be honest, spending the majority of your time in the respawn can become annoying and frustrating. No one wants to be frustrated while they are trying to relax. Especially as an older gamer, when the responsibilities of life can make opportunities for console gaming rare.  In this installment I lay down my top ten game play tips for Black Ops, so you can fucking live better!

1 – It’s not lag – it’s you. Treyarch has provided theater mode. Use it. You can go back immediately and review a match in its entirety from multiple angles. Don’t wait till later. If you got worked and want to see why, go and watch the match immediately while everything is still fresh in your mind. You’ll notice that you miss more than you think and aren’t as fast to the trigger. You may actually learn some tactics as well.

2 – Burst fire.Welcome to the real world. Treyarch has built in some realism into the game. Guess what – guns recoil. You can’t pin the trigger and expect to be on target. You will win more than lose, if more of your burst fire rounds hit versus the guy that is spraying.

3 – Utilize the secondary’s. Nova gas – clears a room and gets a kill or two. Flashbangs  and concussions – same ole same ole. Decoys – under utilized in my opinion. They show a red dot on radar along with sounding like a gun firing and reloading. Throw them in weird places. On top of buildings – out of the map. If they buy you a split second – you win.

4 – Pro perks. They fall in to two categories – those that are worth it and those that aren’t. Worth It – Warlord, Ghost, Sleight of Hand. The rest are a waste of time and effort. If you get them by just playing – great, but they aren’t worth the work.

5 – Claymores. More important than ever. With the ability to move them along with what seems like definite killing power in core games – buy them early and use them often. Also, do two things with claymores.1 – Put them in weird places. People always look around corner and in rooms – out in the middle of nowhere are the most satisfying places to get kills. 2 – Don’t die with a claymore in your pocket. Don’t forget to place it, especially in a high action game where you are dying a lot. It can be the one thing that keeps you near even in K/D and helps grab an objective while you are waiting to respawn.

6 – FLAK JACKET. Do you want to run through claymores? Laugh at hand grenades and semtex? Ride toobs and RPG’s into the sunset? Flak Jacket is your savior. You can survive damn near any explosion with flak jacket. I’ve seen point blank kill shots with toobs only to see the people walk away. Hit markers with grenades or other explosives? How you say? The answer is flak jacket. If you are an objective machine this is your best friend.

7 – Tactical Insertion. Extremely helpful depending on the game mode. If you like Demolition or CTF this is a make or break item in wins or losses. In these game modes the spawn system is locked to one side of the map or the other. Very similar to what everyone is used to. If you can tac insert near or in the other teams spawn – welcome to the true meaning to spawn killing.

8 – Secondary weapons. Until you have ghost pro you should always run the LAW or Strella as your secondary weapon. The air support is deadly and most of the offensive secondary weapons are garbage anyway. Remember the LAW can be shot at enemies – no for the Strella.

9 –Colored Sites. I prefer iron sites, but if you like RDS, buy all the RDS colors. Certain colors are harder to see with depending on the map background. A yellow sight is hard to see on a snow map. Once the map is selected make quick changes to your RDS color to match the map.

10 – Working from prone and diving to prone. Use it – practice it. You are harder to hit when prone because you are a smaller target. People are caught off guard when you dive to prone in an offensive position. People will typically shoot right over your back. Also, when diving to prone – start shooting, don’t wait till you can aim down sight to start firing.

Remember, here in the PorkChop Platoon you are never judged by your skill level. F’n Live Better is intended to provide you with knowledge on how to improve your strategicgame play.  Strategy, living, killing and dying are just part of what makes the COD experience fun, the rest is up to you.

WOOT! Hot stuff. Thanks for the intel.

  2. Lots of good info. I have finally started burst firing and I carry Claymores and the LAW on every class I run. I didn’t realize how effective the Flak Jacket was so I need to start playing some Demolition ASAP!

Great write up! I will add that Flak Jacket Pro is totally worth getting as you’ll survive that Napalm on your head when you’re trying to cap B.

  4. Great stuff. Very informative. I use Scavenger a lot as I use a lot of Bullets, Getting re-supply of Secondaries is great.

Nice write up Nobs!! Wipsy, another thing about Scavanger is when you get the pro version you get basically a never ending supply of Nova Gas!!

Fantastic read. Flak Jacket and Strella…Don’t leave spawn without it.

    Excellent work Nobs!!

  8. I actually wrote this a while back. After further evaluation, I’ve changed my mind on some of the other Pro Perks that have value.

Flak Jacket Pro has high value in HC games. Lay down friendly napalm on a objective and let the people with FJP cap the objective. It’s a pain in the ass to get trying to complete the grenade throwbacks, but has some value.

I’m still on the fence about Ninja. Silent versus completely silent. I really don’t hear much of a difference. It’s easy to get if you specifically pair it with Flak Jacket since both need bomb plants in objective games to get the Pro version. It’s an easy way to work both pro perks at the same time. Typcially you can get both completed in a few good rounds of demolition.

How’d I miss this? I think I must wear blinders on our site these days and just read forum posts. Anyway, good write up B. Early on I used flak jacket and I had a match that I wish I had recorded and posted up. I was taking B and the enemy was just going nuts on me with nades and crossbows and I must have mowed down the entire team all the while explosions were going off all around me. I know it pissed them off but I was laughing like crazy. I felt like Chuck Norris on roids with that jacket on.
