Review of the AFTERGLOW AX.1 Controller for the Xbox 360

Our own xRAVENSxLAMENTx shares his thoughts on his recent purchase of the Afterglow Xbox 360 controller and if it is worth the $29.99 price tag:

Well I picked up the Afterglow AX.1 controller today and brought it home and I let the kids try it first and they really liked it. It lights up whenever the controller vibrates thus responding to your gun fire (not always) grenades and various explosions, but you can move the switch to “on” where it always stays lit or active where it responds to the gaming activity (described above).  The feel of the controller is really solid and not the feeling you get with a cheap Pelican brand controller, a bit smaller, but with a larger circumference at the bottom ends helps anchor your hands. The directional pad is very responsive and stays on point(doesn’t go left when you push up).

The sticks are exactly where the original controllers are however, they are difficult to push down but may improve with use. The “back” and “start” buttons are a bit high compared to the original. When hard aiming, I noticed that it wasn’t as smooth to get to point being it moved in slight increments not a steady flow like the original but when firing from the hip it’s just fine.

It is wired. The only thing I did not like about it was when in a room I could hear everyone but the guys couldn’t hear me and the speaker symbol wasn’t there next to my name..weird..I am using Astro’s and they can be temperamental at times but when I plugged the mic wire into my Xbox controller I was talking and everyone could hear me in the room. So maybe its just the controller itself or something else. I would rate this controller at 8 out of 10, but if the mic problem doesn’t improve..It’s a 5..Enjoy!

(It waas a boo boo on my part. The mic works just fine now.)
